Marie is establishing an immortal turkey myosatellite cell line, which will be made openly available for other researchers to use. In addition, Marie will be adapting the cells to grow in suspension culture to develop an efficient method for culturing these cells on a large scale.
Developing immortal cell lines available for public use will allow researchers to forgo the difficult and time consuming process of obtaining tissue from an animal and establishing culture – which can take several months! In addition, adapting the cells to growing in suspension will allow for large scale culture in bioreactor tanks.
